Moderating policy

The Learning Exchange is owned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The site is managed and moderated by ContinYou.

While the Learning Exchange is a moderated professional networking website, our aim is to use a common sense approach to moderation that, wherever possible, allows members to share their expertise and experience.

However, the moderator will:

1.    ensure that members are given clear guidelines for behaviour in Learning Exchange forums, personal blogs and private messages

2.    act as a helpful, informed facilitator in forum discussions, following up forum or blog participants’ comments, wherever possible, with helpful questions that keep discussions moving, and so on

3.    on occasion, edit posted content (only with the ‘poster’s’ consent) if such editing would make the content clearer to other members

4.    ensure that site content does not break any laws in relation to defamation, libel, data protection, privacy and copyright.

5.    remove all content containing racist, sexist, homophobic, defamatory, bullying, threatening or otherwise unwelcome, inappropriate content

6.    ensure that the Learning Exchange is not used for any commercial purpose or to advertise private or public business opportunities that are not endorsed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families

7.    ensure that content on the Learning Exchange does not embarrass or tarnish the reputation of the Department for Children, Schools and Families in any way

8.    keep a log of offensive behaviour occurrences or inappropriate content posts as a set of references against which to make future decisions on the site.

In ensuring points 4 to 8, the moderator will rely heavily on the ‘Report Abuse’ function in forums and the ‘Contact the moderator’ function on the site.

We therefore ask all members to support the moderation policy and accept their role in alerting us to inappropriate content so that it can be removed.
