Raising standards through a large-scale cluster of schools: a case study

The more extra-curricular activities offered, the higher the grades go   This small study of 508 private schools, conducted by the Independent Schools Council in 2009, showed a correlation between how many extra-curricular activities  pupils are involved in and their GCSE results. At schools that offer 30 or more activities nearly 100 per cent of pupils are likely to achieve grade B or above at GCSE, compared with around 30 per cent of pupils achieving those grades where schools offer only 20 activities.

Lib-Value database   There has been much in the news about the loss of libraries lately.  This searchable database has references to over 400 articles, reports and books covering topics such as the economics of print vs journals, the impact of library use of researcher citation and the value of information literacy instruction. Many are reports from the USA and many offer the full text; others are abstracts only.
