Supporting parents and bolstering vulnerable families is key to securing positive education outcomes for children and young people. This page lists documents, lists of useful links and advice that can support schools to better support parents.

PARTICIPATION and ENGAGEMENT: These resources and links offer advice on increasing student participation and engagement.

Participation Works    This organisation enables schools and voluntary and community sector oganisations and statutory sector organisations to involve more children and young people in developing, delivering and evaluating the services that affect them. It offers a gateway to resources about participation and training and events, as well as case studies.

Power to the pupils     Harnessing students’ input and participation in making decisions and in running a school’s activities would have seemed crackers to our grandparents. Having them inspect teachers would have been the giddy limit. But things have changed. Student governor Gareth John explains how student voice and student inspections work at his school. Engaging young citizens   An excellent resource from Young Advisors. Advice in the resource on engaging young people ranges across five themes: thinking differently; listening harder; broadening opportunities, making it possible; rewarding experience. All sounds like common sense to us!

Young people lead the way    Young Advisors aged between 15 and 21 are showing community leaders and decision makers how to engage young people in community life, local decision making and improving services.
