The Ideas Box

IdeasACTIVITIES: Here are some ideas for inclusive after-school, childcare, and holiday activities.

The Learning Exchange Ideas Box: These activity ideas (eg sports, gardening, literacy, arts, philosophy, healthy eating) have been compiled by Hannah, a mum of two, who campaigns for access to childcare for children with SEND.

 

The settings below offer their tips and experiences of trying new activities with children and their families (eg healthy eating, gardening) in early 2015.

  • St George’s Primary School in Atherton used a small inclusion grant from Family Action to hold a pilot event to engage with parents/carers. They offer some tips for engaging with and supporting parents of children with SEND.
  • Castle Wood School in Coventry used a small inclusion grant to trial holding themed events for families. Here they offer some tips for finding and retaining staff, and involving families.
  • Lilliputs Day Nursery in Bolton used a small inclusion grant to hold a special healthy breakfast event for families. They offer some suggestions for engaging with and supporting parents/carers. 
  • St Bede C of E Academy in Bolton used a small inclusion grant to trial different healthy eating activities within three of the out-of-school clubs they run. Here they offer some tips for running inclusive food-related activities.
  • Castle Wood School in Coventry used a small inclusion grant to trial a small gardening project. Here they offer some tips for sourcing funding and engaging with families.
