I've been thinking hard  over the past few months about how we can improve the support and reach of our training to supplementary schools.  At present we offer training in London and Coventry but as anyone who puts training on knows, it is expensive.  With this in mind I've decided to delve into the world of online training and look at the possibilities of what we might be able to offer in the future.

I've experienced online training in the past and was pleasantly surprised with the progress which has been made; there are many opportunities for engagement and interaction than previous training allowed.  Previous online training was simply a PowerPoint presentation with the odd voice over – not so good.  I've now enrolled on a course so that I can look at the possibilities, so far I've been making Webquest (Google them), Podcasts and Live training, which has been fascinating.

So I will keep you updated with any progress but in the meantime if you'd like to let me know your thought on online training - the good, the bad and the ugly - I'd really like to hear your views.

Thanks, Claire

Hi Claire

On line training most definitely has its place and can offer a really accessible opportunity for many people.  I guess its about testing the quality to ensure that online training is equivalent to off line and that the support, coaching and mentoring is there. Experiencial learning such as through webcasts, skype and live training as you mentioned is definitely a viable option and just opens up the potential for further training to so many more people. I'm sure those in supplementary schools would welcome the opportunity to broaden their skills and not have tpo travel to London or Coventry to do it. So I think its a great recession busting way to ensure that training can still take place without the costly overheads. smiley-smile.gif

Watch the e-newsletter this evening - there's a great online learning offer under the Big Society Section. smiley-smile.gifsmiley-smile.gifsmiley-smile.gif And it's a really good model, as far as I can see.

Take a look at the Khan Academy website, Claire reminded me of this the other day. Thousands of videos to make learning maths fun and clear! And physics and finance and astronomy. http://www.khanacademy.org/
